An Introduction to
Amma Therapy
Amma literally translates to "push pull". It is a lineage based bodywork modality brought to the US from my teacher's teacher, Tina Sohn, from Korea in the 1970's. I was honored to be able to participate in an apprenticeship style 3 year training with a very small group of lovely people.
Based in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the treatment goal is to remove energetic as well as physical blockages that cause pain and drain energy. The circular pressure along the TCM channels relieves tension and stress as well as stimulates the smooth flow of Blood, Qi and Fluids. I stimulate acupoints according to your pulse diagnosis, health history and wellness goals. I may use cupping, gua sha, and auricular therapy (ear seeds) if desired and indicated. As Amma Therapy is a niche bodywork modality, some compare it to Tuina, Lymphatic Massage or Myofascial Release. I work with depth and can be very gentle. I always welcome your preferences and boundaries to be voiced in session.
You will leave relaxed and energized, with more space and movement and less pain in the body.
